Ecstatic pupils from Ditau Primary School in Orlando, Soweto, got dirty with overwhelming enthusiasm after Philips donated gardening tools to their school recently.
This is also thanks to the Philips learning academy of nature topics project, Plant, which has been established to help struggling disadvantaged schools and their pupils with both feeding and educating the pupils.
Participating pupils are encouraged through Plant to learn skills needed to sustain themselves, their schools and their families in the long run.
Plant, which is part of Philips' corporate responsibility initiative Supply Opportunities and Achieve Results (Soar), has given garden tools and seeds to Ditau as well as Welheminah Hoskins Primary School in Riverlea.
Sowetan is the media and publicity partner of Soar, which is also assisting Everest and Dowlinglaan primary schools in Newclare, Masakhane Comprehensive School in Zandspruit, Sonitus School for the Hearing Impaired in Pretoria, Roodepoort Primary School in Roodepoort, and Almont High school in Protea North, Soweto. - Victor Mecoamere
