The line-up for this year's popular jazz festival, Joy of Jazz, is impressive.

It takes place from August 28 to August 30 at eight venues in Newtown, Johannesburg.

Japanese-American jazz pianist Keiko Matsui will join the Original Superstars of Jazz Fusion featuring Roy Ayers, Tom Browne, Wayne Henderson and Lonnie Liston Smith.

Fans can also look forward to American saxophonist Joshua Redman and guitarist Doc Powell also from the US. There are more: Israel's Avi Lebovich and the Israeli Jazz Orchestra, Spain's Sedajazz, Holland's Denise Jannah, Germany's Joy Denelane and Norway's Tord Gustavsen.

Our own Abigail Kubheka, Pat Matshikiza, Mark Fransman, Simphiwe Dana and Yvonne Chaka Chaka will thrill fans as will Nigeria's Asa.

The Mbira Stage will showcase the opening night bill with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra paying tribute to The Union of South Africa.

Clement Motale, director of group sponsorships at Standard Bank said: "Our continued support for the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz has seen this prominent social music fixture grow in stature each year, enjoyed by growing numbers of appreciative audiences who are treated to the best selection of jazz musicians. We are looking forward to celebrating the rich and warm blend of African and international jazz in the heart of Johannesburg as it brings jazz lovers together in a truly united and global celebration of jazz and its heritage."

This premier jazz event will take place at the Dinaledi Stage - a new venue built especially for The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.

The Mbira Stage will be erected on Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown. The other exciting venues are Market Theatre, Bassline, Dance Factory and Museum Afrika.
