Ndungane in Bok debut

Wing Odwa Ndungane will make his debut for the Springboks against Italy at Newlands tomorrow.

Wing Odwa Ndungane will make his debut for the Springboks against Italy at Newlands tomorrow.

His introduction is one of six changes to the run-on team that beat Wales in the second Test at Loftus last weekend.

Ndungane joins his brother Akona, who was in the World Cup-winning squad, in becoming the 32nd set of brothers to play for South Africa - as well as the first identical twins and the first two players of colour to achieve this. He replaced Tonderai Chavhanga.

Schalk Burger will start from the bench after being sidelined with a knee injury.

The other five changes in the run-on side see Gcobani Bobo coming in at centre in place of Adi Jacobs for his first Test since November 2004; Frans Steyn as flyhalf in place of Butch James; CJ van der Linde starting at tighthead in his 50th Test; Bismarck du Plessis standing in for John Smit and Ryan Kankowski coming in for Pierre Spies at No. 8.

Squad: Conrad Jantjes, Odwa Ndungane, Gcobani Bobo, Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana, Francois Steyn, Ricky Januarie, Ryan Kankowski, Juan Smith, Luke Watson, Victor Matfield (c), Bakkies Botha, CJ van der Linde, Bismarck du Plessis, Tendai Mtawarira. - Sapa
