The Transnet Foundation has come on board as one of the partners of the 15km Mmapudi, says road race in Moletjie, Limpopo, next Saturday.

"We are excited that the parastatal is also assisting us in the development of athletics in Moletjie and surrounding areas," said Daniel Radebe, chief organiser.

Radebe is the former South African Marathon champion who is now involved in athletics development throughout the country.

He is staging similar events in Bekkersdal and in North West province.

"The department of sport and recreation and Puma are also with us in the race in Moletjie, which is aimed at reviving athletics in the area," said Radebe.

"The Limpopo department of sport and recreation will provide buses for school children to attend and participate in the race.

"In the past, the Moletjie and Matlala districts were known for producing great athletes who went on to dominate the sport locally and internationally."

These included the Tsebe brothers, Rammy and David, Vincent Maleka, John Sebata, Johannes Maremane and Lawrence Peu.

Radebe said the race from GaManamela to Moshate will start at 9am.
