Tourney to honour 'Zero'

Rolihlahla Primary School of Daveyton were on Sunday crowned the inaugural winners of the Majudene Build It Under-13s Development Soccer Tournament.

They defeated Mpengesi Primary 1-0 in the final played at Etwatwa Stadium. Sixteen schools took part in the tournament.

l In Eastern Cape, Vultures FC beat FC Fast X1 1-0 to win the Billy Senaume Challenge in Aliwal Park on Saturday. Vultures received R5000 and Fast XI got R3000.

Player of the Tournament was Thabo Morabe (Vultures) and Ayanda Zinja (top goalscorer of the tournament with three goals). They each received R500.

Ted Dumitru, the newly-appointed Mamelodi Sundowns technical director, handed over the prizes.

Dumitru was impressed by Mcedisi Ndzinde, Debonair Motsi and Morabe. He organised for the trio to join the Chloorkop outfit.

l Soccer clubs from as far as Botswana are expected to play in the Thomas Johnson Winter Games in Orange Farm from June 21 to 27.

The tournament is held in honour of soccer legend, Thomas "Zero My Hero" Johnson, who played for Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Johnson, now the director of coaching at Dona's Mates Football Academy, has coached in Botswana.

"Dona's Mates Football Academy has decided that the tournament will cater for four categories, the Under-13s, Under-15s, Under-17s and seniors," said organiser James "Maradona" Shabangu.
