Super eagles

Everton's Joseph Yobo scored for a second successive week as the "Super Eagles" kept up their 100 percent winning record in Africa's World Cup qualifiers.

Everton's Joseph Yobo scored for a second successive week as the "Super Eagles" kept up their 100 percent winning record in Africa's World Cup qualifiers.

Yobo's early goal in the Group 4 encounter away against Equatorial Guinea was Nigeria's third win in as many weeks.

Only Burkina Faso and Rwanda, who won on Saturday, also have 100 percent records at the midway point of the first group phase.

Nigeria were one of four teams which won away from home on Sunday, matched by the Cape Verde Islands, Libya and Tunisia.

Birmingham City defender Radhi Jaidi scored the winner as Tunisia won 1-0 in Burundi.

The Cape Verdians won 1-0 away in Mauritius in Group One with a penalty from their Spanish-based striker Dady.

Libya snatched a 1-0 win over Lesotho in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Liberia came back with a late flurry of goals from Dioh Williams and Oliver Makor to draw 2-2 at home with Senegal. The Lions of Terranga had scored early in the second half through El Hadji Diouf and Cheikh Gueye.

Mozambique and Zambia picked up their first points with away draws.

Madagascar scored a last-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 at home with the Mozambicans, while Swaziland held a highly fancied Zambian side to a goalless draw to take top place in Group 11.

On Saturday, there were defeats for several of Africa's leading contenders, including World Cup finalists Angola and Ghana and reigning African champions Egypt.

On Friday, the Democratic Republic of Congo recorded the biggest win of the weekend with a 6-0 thumping of Djibouti in the small Red Sea state. - Reuters
