"People's Poet" Mzwakhe Mbuli is expected to appear in the Germiston magistrate's court today to face charges of intimidation and assault.

Mbuli allegedly assaulted and intimidated a Leondale businessman, Philemon Masike, and his assistant, only known as Maki, on Tuesday last week. This was after he had allegedly questioned the pair about the killing of his uncle, Mandla.

Mbuli's uncle, who owned a supermarket next to Masike's business, was gunned down inside his shop last Monday night. It is believed that two days before the incident, he and Masike had a fight over parking space and police had to be called.

Captain Manaka Raphulu confirmed that a case had been opened against Mbuli but could not say if he would appear in court today.

"As far as I know, police have not arrested Mbuli. On Friday, I spoke to the investigating officer, who said he was busy with statements from witnesses. He told me that he had not arrested him because he did not have his residential address."

Mbuli confirmed yesterday that he had not yet been arrested.

However, he said he would be handing himself over to the police as he knew they were looking for him in connection with the case.
