Police have not ruled out the possibility that former musician and actor Moto "Tiny" Siluma was killed for refusing to pay rent to building hijackers.
Siluma was shot and killed outside his flat in Delmonico building in Joubert Park, Johannesburg, on Monday night.
Shortly after his murder four men, believed to be members of the building's committee, were arrested.
They and Siluma had apparently quarrelled last month over payment of rent.
Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla confirmed that police were following that lead.
"We have heard different stories about the motive of Siluma's killing, including the hijacked building story.
"We are taking all of them seriously. As a result four men were arrested in connection with his murder, but [were] later released due to insufficient evidence.
"Police believe that the four were the building hijackers, but it turned out they were also residents at Delmonico Flats," said Mavundla.
But Siluma's family is convinced that Tiny was killed for refusing to pay rent to building hijackers.
Richard Siluma, his brother, said several people had come forward, saying he was killed by the building's hijackers.
