A brand-new animated series is likely to chase the winter blues away when it kicks off on the Disney Channel.

The Famous Five: On the Case series premieres on Saturday and Sunday on DStv's channel 303. Catch it on weekend mornings at 8am throughout June.

During this premiere weekend, it will be aired at 8am, 10.05am, 3.35pm and 6.35pm.

The series stars the children of author Enid Blyton's Famous Five. The fourchildren, Jo, Max, Allie, Dylan and their faithful dog Timmy meet at their aunt George's house on the English coast during their holidays and embark on a series of adventures. They rely on their own resources to solve mysteries.

Each episode is 22 minutes long. It features the voice of Ciara Janson as Jo, Jon Lee as Max, Kelly Metzger as Allie, Lizzie Waterworth as Dylan and Justin Fletcher as Timmy.

Holiday home to the five is Falcongate, near Devon in England. It is an idyllic setting with a rugged seacoast, rolling countryside and offshore islands. The five explore the outdoors, using their wit and ingenuity to solve crimes, with fun and excitement the way.

The Famous Five books are among the most successful children stories of all time. They have been translated into more than 30 languages in over 50 countries and have sold more than 100 million copies. They continue to sell over a million copies a year in Europe.

Blyton wrote her 21 Famous Five adventures between 1942 and 1963. Five On A Treasure Island was the first adventure she wrote.

Over 60percent of children aged between 10 and 14 have read a Famous Five book.
