HERE are a number of things about the Million Man March that will interest people who intend taking part in the event:

lIt is essentially a gathering at the Union Buildings, where a memorandum will be presented to the Presidency to voice the people's willingness to participate in the creation of safe and secure communities;

lIt is merely symbolic of other mass gatherings of the same name that have taken place around the world in the past;

lPeople will not be marching because it will be virtually impossible to move up to one million people in Pretoria;

lThough referred to as the Million Man March, women are also welcome to attend;

lProceedings at the Union Buildings start at noon but participants can converge on the venue from as early as 6am to avoid congestion;

lDesignated parking areas for march participants have been allocated - the main one being the Loftus Versfeld Stadium - and marshalls will be on hand to guide participants. People will not be able to park anywhere near the Union Buildings.

lVarious streets around Pretoria will be closed to traffic as from 6am, including the corner of Potgieter and Skinner streets down to Nelson Mandela Boulevard.

Also Skinner Street down the boulevard to the corner of Vermeulen Street.

Corner Nelson Mandela Boulevard and Vermeulen Street right up to the Union Buildings.

Corner of Hamilton and Schoeman streets past Belvedere Street.

Corner Church and Richard streets, down to Hamilton Street.
