As he drove home from the gathering at about 3.30am on Sunday he was involved in an accident at the merger of N14 and N1. He died instantly.
Born in New Brighton on May 16 1975, Xiphu was raised by his grandparents, Jack and Ethel Xiphu, while his father, Twiggs, was in exile.
He studied civil engineering at the Port Elizabeth Technikonbefore continuing his studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and Tshwane University of Technology. At the time of his death he was employed by Carlisle Engineers in Johannesburg.
He is survived by his daughter Maya Ayanda Nkonki, his sister Ayanda and his parents Brenda and Twiggs.
He will be buried in Port Elizabeth tomorrow. The service, at the Gana Kakaza Hall of the Wellington Methodist Church in Aggrey Road, New Brighton, starts at 9am.
