South Africa has been a net exporter of electricity every month since March 2003. Statistics South Africa data continues to contradict statements from Eskom and Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin that this country sells electricity to neighbouring countries while local households and industry suffer rolling blackouts. In January when Eskom forced the mining industry to halt for five days, net electricity exports jumped to the highest figure since October 2003. - Robert Laing
