The Sowetan's expansive and consistent coverage of development activities at Safa Johannesburg did not go unnoticed; the sports department was presented with an award in recognition for soccer coverage in the area.

The award was was received by Deputy Sports Editor Sello Rabothata from the region's deputy president, Phil Mogodi, at its yearly general meeting in Klipspruit on Saturday.

Mogodi said they decided to honour the people's paper as a token of appreciation for their immeasurable contribution in terms of the coverage of development activities.

"We value the contribution made by Sowetan towards reporting on activities of football around Johannesburg,'' said Mogodi.

The Gauteng department of sports, recreation, arts and culture was also honoured for their commitment to the development of sport. Twelve Local Football Associations received certificates for their outstanding contribution towards the growth of football.
