Colourful gay socialite Dr Love is shocked that his closest and most trusted friends were allegedly caught stealing from him and are appearing in court charged with theft.

Seth Mazibuko, chief executive of the 1976 Foundation, and his co-accused, Andries Molefe, appeared briefly in the Randburg magistrate's court yesterday accused of stealing laptops and cellphones from Dr Love's car.

Mazibuko and Molefe were student leaders of the 1976 pupil protests and Mazibuko was jailed on Robben Island.

"I am happy that the people who stole from me were caught and finally the mystery of this theft will be solved," Dr Love, whose real name is Mveleli Gqwede, said.

"I trusted Seth. We are close and we move in the same circles."

Mazibuko and Molefe allegedly stole two laptops worth R14000 and some cellphones from Dr Love's car in April.

Police arrested Mazibuko on Friday but released him after he told them that he had bought the cellphone from Molefe for R1500. Molefe was found in possession of the other cellphone and laptop and was arrested.

On Sunday police arrested Mazibuko again after they found him in possession of the second laptop at his home.

The two men were not asked to plead and the case was postponed to June 26 for further investigation.

They were granted R2000 bail each. However, by late yesterday Mazibuko had not paid bail and was facing the possibility of another night in a police cell.
