LUANDA - Carlos Alhinho, the former coach of the Angolan national football team, died after falling down an empty elevator shaft in a hotel in the southern city of Benguela, state media reported on Sunday.
The manager of the hotel told the Angop news agency that Alhinho had died on Saturday afternoon after he stepped through the open lift door and then plunged six floors before landing on top of the cabin which was on the ground floor. He was treated in hospital but later died of his injuries.
The 59-year-old had been in Benguela for talks about taking the helm at the leading Angolan club side, Primeiro de Maio after it recently parted company with coach Rui Teixeira. - Sapa-AFP
