Bree Combined School Under-12 team will represent South Africa in France in the International Under-12 Nations Cup from September 5 to 8.

This after the Orlando Pirates development outfit beat Sinamuva Primary School from Pietermaritzburg 1-0 in the finals of the Danone Nations Cup national play-offs at Klipspruit in Soweto on Saturday.

It was not an easy victory for Bree, who were made to toil by the obdurate KwaZulu-Natal boys despite enjoying home advantage.

Both sides showed determination and commitment and entertained the enthusiastic crowd with a magnificent display.

After a goalless opening period, Bree coach Mandla Qhogi brought on Siyanda Ngcobo for Mbongiseni Mazibuko in the 12th minute to add fire upfront.

This wise move paid off handsomely when Ngcobo mesmerised Sinamuva's defence with his first touch and set up Thando Maphumulo, who cleverly headed past goalminder Amanda Ngidi.

The Bree outfit ended the competition unbeaten from eight games. Maphumulo became the top goalscorer with 21 goals.

Bree mentor Qhogi, who also leads the team in the Safa Soweto development league, attributed their success to team spirit and good preparation.
