STRANGERS MARRY

It was dubbed the Wedding of the Year and it did not disappoint.

The two strangers laid eyes on each for the first time after saying "I do" on Mary Fitzgerald Square on Friday.

Derrick Norman Mathee and Gail Brookstein tied the knot before VIP guests and curious onlookers in an exquisitely decorated marquee.

Immaculately dressed in white, the petite Brookstein was hidden under three layers of lace.

Her well-travelled husband's face was covered by a fighter jet pilot's mask. The two met for the first time at the altar after winning Kaya FM's 2 Strangers and a Wedding.

Before the ceremony the couple was whisked away to sign an anti-nuptial contract before advocate Zola Majavu.

Smiling like a proud dad, Pastor Desmond Petersen said the marriage had a fighting chance because the Mathees were born-again Christians.

"The church does not have a problem with how they met," he said. "Life partners meet on the street, in a car park or a supermarket."

The huge marquee, with beautiful flowers, some from Holland, looked stunning. A lot of thought had obviously gone into the R1,6million sponsored wedding.
