Springs on the East Rand came to a standstill on Friday as the community joined the music fraternity to bid gospel star Vuyo Mokoena farewell.
Musicians, actors and producers came out in great numbers to give Mokoena a heroic send-off.
The gospel star, whose music has touched many people, died a week ago of a brain tumor.
He was buried at the Nigel Cemetery after a service that lasted six hours at the Springs Sports Centre.
The IFP's Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, Reverend Hawu Mbatha, IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Ekurhuleni mayor Duma Nkosi and Menzi Ngubane were among the mourners.
They came in various shapes, ages and colours and filled the centre to capacity.
Fashion enthusiasts used the opportunity to showcase their designer outfits. They were dressed to make a fashion statement.
Musicians turned the funeral into a concert. The two programme directors, Zanele Mbokazi and Percy Ingle, were overwhelmed and failed to control the proceedings.
Most musicians who took to the stage used the platform to promote themselves.
Buthelezi said: "We are friends adrift on the sea of sorrow. As we bid farewell to our brother Vuyo Mokoena and share our sadness at his premature passing, it is clear that we are all friends of a wonderful man.
"It is still hard to comprehend that our brother has left us."
Buthelezi, who reportedly contributed R50000 to Mokoena's family, said the singer was a proud member of the IFP.
