Cellphone videos showing high school pupils engaged in steamy sex romps so enraged parents that they want the department to deal harshly with the culprits.

The video, which shows lurid sex scenes many adults would rather not face, is being distributed among pupils at Sitintile High School at KaNyamazane in Nelspruit.

The video shows three girls in school uniform and three boys with their pants and panties down engaging in sex, including orally.

One pupil, who refused to identify herself, told Sowetan that sex at the school was a popular practice and that they did not find it shocking.

"Who doesn't know about sex in this day and age?" she asked.

The video has sparked an outcry after it circulated in the community.

Angry parents are worried that young pupils at the school were engaging in sex and want answers.

Education department officials have described the incident as "inappropriate behaviour".

Department spokesman Jasper Zwane said: "The matter is being investigated and we will deal accordingly with the perpetrators.

"It is not clear if the action took place in the school yard, but if our probe reveals that this happened on school premises, heads will roll," he said.

When Sowetan visited the school yesterday, the principal was said to be away and his deputy referred all queries to provincial director, Mfana Lushaba.

Lushaba said at least 40 cellphones were confiscated from pupils after the incident, and that the school had invited the parents to collect them.

"The school has banned the use of cellphones in the school yard and these pupils not only violated that rule by bringing them to school, but embarrassed the department by taking photos of themselves having sex."
