Sibongile Chabeli was regarded by many as resilient, strong, compassionate, energetic and enthusiastic.

Mama Sibongile, as she was fondly known, was a mother not only to her three daughters, but to all whom she knew. Her wisdom enriched many people, young and old.

Chabeli, who died on May 26, was born in Johannesburg and spent most of her childhood in Alexandra. Later, her family moved to Zimbabwe, where she attended Bond Mission School.

In 1974, she married David "Pine" Chabeli, a former Moroka Swallows FC boss. Their relationship symbolised a true union and their love lasted more than 30 years.

Chabeli's daughter Zodwa Mobeng said: "When my father retired, they would take turns to make breakfast for each other.

"When dad died in June 2006, mom was heartbroken, but she remained strong for her daughters. We had a very close relationship and she was more a friend than a parent. She listened to us and gave us very sound advice. My sisters Penelope and Matshepo and I will miss her," Mobeng said.

Chabeli will be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery.

The service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Robertsham from 11am.
