The luxury vehicle of the beleaguered Tubatse mayor Ralepane Samuel Mamekwa, which was attached by the Lydenberg magistrate's court a fortnight ago, has been returned to him.
The VW Toureg was brought back after the court rescinded the order, saying it was obtained erroneously.
The vehicle was attached after four managers sued the municipality for failing to honour a payout agreement.
The four managers, Bartun Koma, David Mogofe, Stephen Nkadimeng, and Strydom Makofane, took the municipality to court after they were suspended.
The municipality had accused them of rigging tenders worth R6 million.
The four managers challenged their suspension in court and were found not guilty.
The municipality offered to reinstate them, but in more junior positions, which the managers rejected.
Makofane and Nkadimeng settled for a golden handshake in exchange for their resignation.
The other two managers, Mogofe and Koma. were demoted from their positions.
A settlement between Makofane and Nkadimeng with the municipality was reached in terms of which they were allegedly promised a R1,4 million package.
The municipality later allegedly failed to honour the settlement, leaving the duo with no option but to take the legal route.
