The phenomenon of bad and good police officers is a problem many societies across the world tackle almost daily with varying success.
Not even the developed countries can claim absolute success in ridding their police forces of bad apples.
Praise must therefore go to Johannesburg magistrate Pauldu Plessis, who this week found a corrupt Johannesburg police inspector, Sean Twala, guilty of extortion, intimidation, bribery and defeating the ends of justice.
The same goes for the policeman's colleagues who secured the guilty verdict.
Delivering the verdict, Du Plessis said: "This should send a clear message to police officers not to involve themselves in criminal activities."
