Vasco da Gama trounced Carara Kicks 3-0 in the playoffs the Safa Vodacom League at the Ikageng Stadium yesterday.

For their victory in the finals Vasco were presented with the R20000 first prize and a trophy while runners-up Kicks received R15 000. Both teams will be doing duty in the National First Division next season.

Vasco were the winners of the semifinals of the coastal stream, while Carara Kicks won the semifinals of the inland stream.

Both sides entertained the fans with good football in the first half, but Kicks lost touch in the second half. Defender Angelo Julius scored the first goal in the first minute of the game for Da Gama, the fastest goal ever in the tournament.

The score remained 1-0 at the interval in favour of the Capetonians.

Vasco attacked strongly in the second half and they shot further ahead in the 67th minute when midfielder Gavin Lendis capitalised on Kicks keeper Edward More's blunder and tapped into the gaping net.

Vasco scored their last goal through Anthony Moniz who cleverly lobbed his shot over More, who was off his goal line in the 75th minute.
