While Absa Premiership champions SuperSport United always emphasize teamwork, Thursday night was set aside to celebrate individual brilliance, and midfielder Elias Pelembe emerged the biggest winner at the team's year-end awards event, held in Johannesburg.

The Mozambican walked away with the player of the season and the sought-after players' player of the season awards, picking up a R70 000 cheque in the process, at the function at Gallagher Estate.

Pelembe, who joined the Tshwane side at the beginning of the past season, was an invaluable member of Gavin Hunt's team, claiming the central midfield position, while also scoring crucial goals.

In winning the championship, Matsatsantsa a Pitori also earned R5 million from the club management to share. Club chairman Khulu Sibiya had earlier told Sowetanhe was proud of the players who he said complemented and inspired each other.

The winners:

Player of the season - Elias Pelembe

Players' player - Elias Pelembe

Rookie of the year - Bongani Khumalo

Top goal scorer - Katlego Mashego

Most improved player - Tsietsi Mahoa

CEO's Award - Shane Poggenpoel

Chairman's Award - Gavin Hunt
