Orlando Pirates might have not done well this season, but their ace player Teko Modise deservedly won the footballer of the season award last night.

Modise will bank R250000 this morning after impressing coaches of the 16 Premiership clubs, who served as judges for this award.

Andile "Ace" Ncobo and Enoch Molefe received R50000 and R30000, respectively for winning the PSL referee of the season and assistant referee of the season awards.

Irvin Khoza, the league's boss, chose Santos central defender Musa Otieno for the chairman's award (and R100000 prize) in recognition of his superb contribution.

Moving to the Premiership awards sponsored by Absa, SuperSport United's Elias Pelembe was named the player of the season by the sponsors.

Judges in this category were panelists appointed by the giant banking institution. The Mozambican received R15 000.

Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune scored a double when he was named the players' player of the season (R150 000) and goalkeeper of the season (R50 000).

United's Gavin Hunt was given R75 000 for winning the coach of the season award, while his defender Sibusiso Gaxa got R50 000 for the goal of the season (against Mamelodi Sundowns). James Chamanga of Moroka Swallows received R1 000 each for the 14 goals he scored and the Lesley Manyathela trophy for being the top scorer.

The Mpumalanga Black Aces duo of Vusiwe Masondo (R100 000) and Thabang Rooi won the Nedbank Cup player of the tournament (R100 000) and most promising player (R25 000) awards.

Dynamos' Joseph Mthombeni won the First Division inland stream player of the season and Kurt Lentjies of Ikapa Sporting FC won for the coastal stream (R5 000 each).
