Moroka Swallows are planning to build a team to challenge for league honours next season, with coach Ian Gorowa at the helm.
"It was not really a great season for us, we almost finished outside the R1 million bracket (top eight)," said Sipho Xulu, Swallows' general manager.
Xulu was speaking at the end-of-season awards ceremony of the Dube Birds held in Pimville, Soweto, last Tuesday night.
"Now that the season is over, we are going to sit down with all the players to do an evaluation process in preparation for the new season," Xulu said.
"There are some of them who we will be retaining and others who will be released, but we have to sit down with everybody before going public.
"We also have a few players that we are targeting, negotiations are ongoing. The plan is to assemble a team that Maswaiswai will be proud to be associated with.
"We have seen how exciting the season that has just ended was. Swallows also need to come to the party and make it more exciting by winning silverware.
"When the season started, the hopes in the camp were high after we finished third on the log in the previous one.
"We are all hoping to better the performance by winning the championship title this time round. We all learn from our mistakes."
Xulu said the players will return on June 17 to start preparations for the new season, which will be followed by a trip to Uitenhage in Eastern Cape for pre-season training.
"In Uitenhage, we will also play against Bay United in the VW Challenge. We have been winning this challenge since it started three years ago. We would like to inform our supporters that Swallows' offices will close from May 26 to June 17."
During the awards, China-bound James Chamanga walked away with R30 000 for winning the player of the season and top goal scorer awards. He netted 14 goals.
Bevan Fransman grabbed the players' player of the season award and took home R30 000.
Vincent Kobola and Ramahlwe Mphahlele were presented with R5 000 each for winning the best young player and newcomer awards.
