I am a youth leader at my local church and a co-founder of a youth organisation. The idea of handing out condoms at school will only promote sexual activity among our youth.

What happens if a young couple finds themselves without a condom when needed? Are they going to stop? Of course not, because sexual activity is being promoted. This should not only be our teachers' problem because we are all affected. What should happen is that the social aspect of the school should be run by a separate organisation.

This would allow teachers to focus on the curriculum and not worry about having to hand out condoms.

The organisation's sole responsibly would be to run the social aspect of the school, organising school camps, excursions, counselling and other social activities to occupy the youth's free time. Holidays and weekends are when sexual activities are rife.

An idea like this has been taken to the Department of Education and Department of Social Development by a registered and experienced youth organisation, but seems to be falling on deaf ears. And now they want to cover the problem by handing out condoms.
