Business group visits victims

A group of black businesses from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and other states will visit areas affected by xenophobic attacks today.

Spokesman Khanya Mjiyako said yesterday the delegation would give out food parcels and blankets to victims of the attacks.

"The visit will be a symbol of unity among African states represented in South Africa," Mjiyako said.

Mjiyako said the countries had also set up an African carnival to promote the 2010 World Cup, address xenophobia and promote African tourism.

The group is in the country for meetings organised by the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc).

Mjiyako said one of the attractions of the carnival would be an African village where "authentic African food and drinks would be exhibited".

Other highlights would include storytelling and poetry. - Sapa
