The R200000 Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism 2007 is shared by three reporters from the Daily Dispatch - for their exposé of hundreds of neo-natal deaths at Frere Hospital in East London.

The judges described the work of Ntando Makhubu, Brett Horner and Chandre Prince as "a model investigation of excellent and powerful journalism".

The judges praised the range of investigative work they received - including an investigative piece by Sowetan reporters Isaac Moledi and Langelihle Chagwe, which covered a bribery scandal at the South African Bureau of Standards.
