Mpumalanga police are looking for members of a local taxi association who allegedly assaulted four men accused of robbing their colleague.

The police said yesterday that a taxi driver was attacked by four men on Friday.

"They robbed him before stabbing him with a screwdriver and breaking his right arm," police spokesman Nompilo Qwabe said.

He was treated at the local hospital and later laid charges with the Schoemansdal police.

"Members of Malelane Taxi Association went to look for the suspects," Qwabe said. "When they found them they took them to a car wash and assaulted them."

Qwabe said the men only handed the suspects over to the police after severely assaulting them.

"One of the suspects had to be taken to hospital, where he died on arrival," she said.
