Lwazi Primary School of Cape Town were crowned the Western Cape Provincial Danone Nations Cup champions after beating Gardenia 1 - 0 at Erica Park Sports Complex in Belhar, Cape Town, at the weekend.

Cape Town hosted the third and final preliminary Nations Cup soccer tournament after KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng hosted their events in April.

The four teams that reached the semifinals will travel to Soweto on May 31 to take part in the national finals.

The winners of that tournament will play in the International Danone Nations Cup, which takes place in France from September 4 to 7.

Attending the national finals will be a team from Danone, France, in preparation for the 2010 International Danone Nations Cup which will be held in South Africa, the first time the tournament will be staged outside France.

The four Cape Town teams that will join the national finals are Lwazi, Plantation, Gardenia and ACJ Pakage Primary School.

Nations Cup ambassador Neil Tovey was impressed with what he saw. "The teams were well organised and I was impressed with the talent I saw." - Sowetan Reporter
