A goal in the 35th minute by striker Mduduzi Mofokeng steered MOM Seboni Secondary School to a 1-0 victory over Alra Park in the Dreamfields Soccer Festival at Matthews Mphahane Park in Duduza on Saturday.

The event was staged by the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality in partnership with the Gauteng department of education and Dreamfields project.

Thirty primary and secondary schools took part in the one-day event and were divided into boys' and girls' categories.

There was excitement before kick-off when each school received a dreambag that contained three balls, 15 pairs of soccer boots and the same number of sets of kits and shin pads.

They were donated by the Dreamfields project to the amount of R176000 with a vision of bringing sustainable soccer and equipment to the disadvantaged communities, according to the chief executive officer, John Perlman.

Talent was in abundance on the day as all the participants played their hearts out for the prizes on offer.

MOM Seboni went on to collect another trophy in the girls' category after Esibonelwe was disqualified for cheating by fielding a defaulter who attends another school.

Lebohang Xulu, of Seboni, who ended the tournament with 10 goals, said she was grateful to Dreamfields project for their generous donation.

Xulu plays for Vodacom division side Nigel Ladies.

In the boys Under-12 section, a goal apiece by Vusi Maseko, Thabiso Tsotetsi, Lehlohonolo Nomabhuea and a brace by Vusi Sibeko inspired James Nkosi Primary School to a resounding 5-0 victory over Zakheni.

In the Under-12 girls final, Esizwesethu Primary School pipped Dan Radebe 1-0.

The Under-12s were also presented with goalposts.
