Mad Super 14 rush

Meshack Khotha

A bonus points win for both South African rugby teams in the last games of the season could ensure them a berth in the Super 14 semifinals on May 24.

Stormers and home boys Sharks occupy fourth and fifth position on the log after garnering 37 points each from 12 matches.

Tomorrow, Stormers face Lions at Ellis Park Stadium in a 3pm kickoff while the Sharks host the Chiefs in Durban at 7.10pm on the same day.

But their hopes of remaining in contention for the semis depend on the outcome of matches involving the second-placed Hurricanes, who have collected 40 points, and third-placed Waratahs, with 39 points. Hurricanes challenge Blues in Auckland today while the Reds welcome the Waratahs tomorrow in Brisbane.

Crusaders will finish on top of the log, and have booked a home semifinal. They have 52 points after losing just one of their 12 matches to date.

l Meanwhile, the Springbok rugby squad to play Wales in Test matches on June 7 and 14 will be announced tomorrow at 9pm.
