Gospel singer Vuyo Mokoena has been readmitted to hospital barely weeks after his discharge.

The ailing Mokoena is reported to have suffered from a blinding headache while recuperating at home after his last admission for leukemia treatment.

"Vuyo was recovering well when he started complaining of a severe headache that we thought was as a result of the chemotherapy he is undergoing," said Sipho Makhabane, owner of Big Fish Music, the company that had just signed Mokoena, speaking on behalf of the family.

"His wife Tebogo rushed him to hospital last Thursday and tests revealed that he had developed a brain tumor that is causing the headache. He was immediately admitted.

"Mokoena is awake and conscious of his surroundings, though he is very weak.

We are trying hard not to put him under strain by talking his ear off. He understands everything that is being said to him.

"He is able to talk but his voice is deep and a bit hoarse, like somebody who has just woken up. His left eye is also a bit lazy but all of that is improving daily."

Makhabane, who is among the top gospel singers in the country, said it was sad that Mokoena had to contend wit a brain tumour at a time when he was recovering from leukemia.

He said at this stage it was not clear whether the tumour was malignant or benign.

"He is undergoing radiation treatment, so things are difficult for him and the family," Makhabane said.

"That's why I appeal to fans and friends to give the family and the hospital space to work towards his recovery.

"Besides, he needs all the rest and prayers he can get."
