SA must erect refugee camps

As a mother, a woman and a black South African my heart bled for the second time this week.

As a mother, a woman and a black South African my heart bled for the second time this week.

The first time was when the xenophobic attacks left a young girl dead. This week it was a young Zimbabwean woman on our television screens.

With all the justifications put forward, I still ask: is there no other way of dealing with this in a civil manner?

Until when will brother turn against brother? Today it is violence against foreigners. When they are gone, the same blood-thirsty attackers will use tribal lines to find other victims, because a monster will always be a monster.

Yes, South Africa is plagued by high rates of unemployment. The greedy employers who prefer cheap foreign labourers are not making the situation any better but in the end they laugh at us as Africans attack each other.

My heart bleeds for the lack of love and respect for our own. No matter where each comes from, we are all Africans.

They killed Steve Biko in an attempt to kill the solution. Here we are, liberated in word but still shackled in real life.

I call on the government to erect refugee camps and issue temporary papers to these people so that every person in South Africa can be accounted for.

By doing this, we will be in a better position to control the influx of illegal immigrants, catch out the crime culprits and create peace in our communities.
