The Springs regional court yesterday turned down an application to separate the bail application of one of the five men accused of raping and killing Eudy Simelane.
The men appeared in court after being arrested following the murder of the former Banyana Banyana soccer player. The prosecution asked that their names not be revealed.
Defence advocate Henk Hoffman told the court, presided over by magistrate Betty Lesufi, that his client had been threatened by his co-accused. He said this happened on the day of the murder.
He also asked that the man be held in a different cell from the others.
Lesufi granted the second request but refused the first.
A legal aid lawyer, Thabo Mfingwane, told the court he would represent only one of the other four men.
