The annual Africa Day Festival takes place at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on Saturday May 24.
Set to broadcast the best Africa has to offer are explosive artists of the calibre of Senegalese troubadour Ismael Lo, Chiwoniso of Zimbabwe, Dobet Gnahore of Ivory Coast, Mapumba of the DRC and our own scathamiya kings Ladysmith Black Mambazo .
Before the broadcast the Mahotella Queens, Australia's White Cockatoo and the amazing Sarakasi Kenyan acrobats will perform.
The festival will be beamed to the entire continent by SABC2 and SABC Africa - live from Mary Fitzgerald Square in Johannesburg.
The second concert takes place on Sunday May 25. Mofolo Park will host the free concert with Ismael Lo, Chiwoniso, Dobet Gnahore and White Cockatoo in the heart of Soweto.
An African film festival, it features our continent's finest screen offerings, a crafts fair showcasing the elegance and beauty of Africa's artistic talents, a Battle of the Bands with Soweto's untapped talent, as well as an anti-xenophobia workshop.
This year the African continent observes the 45th anniversary of Africa Day. It was declared by the then Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union. Its role is to acknowledge, showcase and celebrate African history, heritage and culture.
This year's celebrations begin with a free concert.
