FC AK yesterday beat the seven-day deadline to appeal against their relegation to the Vodacom League after being found guilty of bribery.

Morio Sanyane, South African Football Association communications director, said: "I can confirm that FC AK have appealed and also paid the required R20 000 fee.

"The matter will be heard by the Safa Appeals Board at a hotel near the OR Tambo International Airport on May 19 at 5pm."

Bahumi were found guilty by the PSL disciplinary committee of bribing Mpumalanga Black Aces goalie Michel Babale to throw a game. FC AK were further fined R500 000 and their president, Azziz Kara, was banned for 30 years and fined R500 000.

l The arbitrator is expected to make a ruling today regarding a complaint by the Vodacom League clubs who finished second on the log in their provinces.

The 18 clubs were earlier informed that they would also qualify for the national playoffs in Klerksdorp next week, only for the Safa executive to reject it.

Those clubs threatened to go to court but ended up agreeing with Safa to settle for arbitration, which will be binding on all parties.

The matter was heard on Monday.
