Tensions are running high between residents of Limpopo's section B at NkowaNkowa township outside Tzaneen and occupants of Babamecisi informal settlement over illegal electricity connection.

This after a number of residents from the informal settlement had illegally connected electricity from a main sub-station, resulting in continuous power outages that affected township households.

A resident from Section B said at first the squatters made their connections at night, but now they do it openly in broad daylight.

The connections are not insulated and pose a danger for residents and motorists, said the resident.

He said they had written several letters to the municipality, inviting mayor Othaniel Mushwana to the area to witness the situation, but without any success.

Now the squatters are allegedly threatening to kill those who expose their nefarious activities.

Eskom could not be reached for comment.

Municipality spokesman Solly Mokhashoa said the matter was being investigated.
