Madisha expelled from the SACP

The South African Communist Party announced yesterday it had expelled former Cosatu president Willie Madisha from its ranks.

The South African Communist Party announced yesterday it had expelled former Cosatu president Willie Madisha from its ranks.

Madisha's expulsion follows last year's public claim that he had handed over a R500000 donation to SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande. The SACP claims to have no records of receiving such a donation. Nzimande also disputed the claim.

The SACP then charged Madisha for failing to raise the matter within the SACP leadership structures - of which he was a member for the past five years. Madisha was outvoted from the SACP central committee at the party's congress last year.

He was also accused of conducting himself in public, as a member of the SACP, "in a manner that brought the SACP into disrepute".

Yesterday, the party said following investigations into the matter, its central committee "could come to no other conclusion than that Madisha should be expelled from the SACP".

Madisha was earlier this year axed as Cosatu president. His expulsion also related to the R500000 donation.

He is currently challenging the expulsion in court. - Sapa
