Dusi cycle race grows in popularity

More than 640 cyclists will be competing in the third edition of the Jonsson Dusi Mfula Off Road Experience on May 31 and June 1 through the Valley of a Thousand Hills in KwaZulu-Natal.

More than 640 cyclists will be competing in the third edition of the Jonsson Dusi Mfula Off Road Experience on May 31 and June 1 through the Valley of a Thousand Hills in KwaZulu-Natal.

The mountain bike race has more than doubled its entries from the inaugural edition in 2006. The event was sold out three months ago when the cap of 640 riders was reached.

"This event is unique as it is not a race, it is an experience. It is literally the Dusi canoe marathon on a mountain bike - it follows the Dusi route and you don't have to be a paddler to enjoy it," said race director Ray de Vries.

"I am amazed at how successful this event is becoming - we have a waiting list of over 300 riders who want to take part. Unfortunately, because of infrastructural restrictions, we cannot take one more rider." - Sapa
