Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates may have not be having a great 2007-08 Absa Premiership season, but that counts for nothing when they meet.
Various people interviewed yesterday by Sowetan said they were anticipating fireworks when Chiefs welcome Pirates at Mmabatho Stadium tomorrow at 3pm.
Ntsie "Teargas" Maphike, a former Amakhosi left-back who is now coaching the side's Under-15s, is predicting a draw.
"It's gonna be a tough one, despite the fact that both clubs are not doing that well. The derby always motivates the players to redouble their efforts.
"On the other hand, the two coaches are well aware about the importance of the derby.
"The fans will get their monies' worth," he said.
Ernest "Botsotso" Makhanya, a former Pirates captain and development coach, said: "I'm a Pirate through thick and thin and I would be happy if they win.
"I remember from my playing days that when you enter the field, the multitude of supporters intimidates you.
"It always tells you as a player to redouble your efforts.
"The current crop of players must know that many people died for the two clubs.
"In some families, people do not sleep or eat.
"People have also divorced because of the derby," said Makhanya, who is now unemployed but looking for a job as a coach.
Percy Majola, a staunch Chiefs fan in Seshego, Limpopo, said: "We all know that when the two clubs meet, it's always like a cup final.
"Pressure is also on both the players and coaches, we are nearing the end of the season and they have to do well to be still part of the clubs.
"I'll give it to Chiefs, but it's not gonna be easy."
In Galeshewe, Kimberley, Pirates supporter Khomotso Nyamane said: "My club has not been playing well, same applies to Chiefs.
"It will be a draw."
Skaplan Skosana, a top Mamelodi Sundowns fan in East London, said: "For strange reasons, I will be rooting for Pirates on the day.
"I foresee a draw, just hoping the standard will be more or less the same as in the first round in Durban in November, if not slightly better."
Rocklands-based Botshelo Selogilwe, a supporter of Bloemfontein Celtic, said: "It's gonna be yet another draw, but I predict 1-all this round.
"They have not been playing [well] this season, but I think it will be a great game.
"Both clubs are desperate to finish in the top eight."
No doubt, Bloemfontein Celtic's Siwelele have some of the most vocal and never-say-die singers in the league.
The major difference is that you will never find men wearing bras among Siwelele as you would with The Ghost, let alone people in funny, if not ugly, masks.
Some even think they can make substitutions for their coaches and can also be very emotional, a common characteristic of football fans all over the world.
We are still to see a derby to match this one in this country.
