Food suppliers ditch schools

Pupils at some primary schools in Limpopo continue to learn without food after a dispute between the department of education and companies supplying food parcels.

The companies complained that the recent price hike of food and fuel made their job difficult.

Some companies, mainly those supplying bread and other food parcels to schools, pulled out of the contract, leaving many pupils in Capricorn without food.

They pulled out of the contract on the first day of the second quarter when schools reopened.

Departmental spokesman Ndo Magalala said new companies had been appointed to continue supplying bread to schools in the area.
