The Selati Super Cup nears its climax this weekend with the quarterfinal games being played around the Nkomazi region.
With defending champions Junior Aces sent packing by Shongwe Highlanders over the past weekend, this again proved that the cup cannot be defended.
The two previous winners, Junior Pirates (2005) and Home Killers (2006), failed to defend the trophy.
What is remarkable is that loser's finalists for the past three seasons have all qualified for this year's quarterfinals. They are Langeloop City Movers, Buffelspruit All Blacks and Mangweni Manchester. It still remains tough to predict this year's champs as all eight quarterfinalists have what it takes to make it to the final.
The R40 000 prize money at stake for the champions is mouth-watering enough for any team.
Kenneth Phiri, tournament organiser, said the elimination of the favourites earlier proved that the standard of football in the area has improved.
"We are inviting talent scouts from Premiership to Vodacom League clubs to come in their numbers to scout for players as there is an abundance of talent in this area," said Phiri.
