The newly-elected president of the ANC Youth League, Julius Malema, is expected to lead a march to launch an anti-crime campaign in Sebokeng, Vaal, today.
Vaal ANCYL leader and organiser Chris Molefe said the campaign was prompted by the high crime rate, especially rape, in the township.
Molefe said: "Last month several serious crimes occurred but the suspects are still roaming the streets, intent on harming more innocent residents."
He said that on April 15 Magogo Nyambose was abducted, repeatedly raped and stoned to death in Zone 12. In Zone 3, three men entered the home of a Cosatu regional organiser and raped his wife.
"In another incident, a gang of 10 men kidnapped a student nurse and raped her for three days in Zone 10.
"At Boitumelo, a young girl was also raped and killed," said Molefe.
Also, a group of men kidnapped a woman, took her to Beverley Hills where they gang-raped and left her naked in the street, said Molefe.
Molefe said Malema would lead the march from 1pm in Zone 11 to Sebokeng police station and the offices of the Department of Justice. - Ntwaagae Seleka
