Hundreds of pensioners yesterday morning watched as robbers snatched a bag full of their grants and run.
Police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum said the loot was grabbed from a post office employee at the Vishnu Hall in Umzinto on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
"The money was to pay the hundreds of people who had queued to collect child support grants, disability grants and old age pensions," said Pandarum.
The robber climbed over a high fence despite the presence of armed security guards.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective-Inspector Roy Singh of the SAPS Umzinto detective service.
Pandarum could not disclose how much was taken.
