She is one of the country's most gifted and focused poets, and her star in literary circles keeps on rising.
She is now among the prominent artists giving a voice to the youth through poetry and her often provocative theatrical creations. Poet and playwright Napo Masheane will eventually launch her much-awaited book Caves Speak in Metaphors.
The launch took place at Xarra Books in Newtown on April 24 and was attended by fellow poets, feminist writers and young people.
"Caves Speak in Metaphors is a serious work of art that speaks both for the poet and her people," says Stanley Onjezani Kenani, co-editor of the book.
"In this collection, you will find the voice of women and the voice of the oppressed, the voice of love and the voice of anger.
"Napo writes with a sense of purpose and passion. She is a great communicator and poetry is her best too.
"This is a work of art to be treasured forever, it is a work in which we African people discover ourselves."
Masheane is a founding member of Feela Sistah! Spoken Word Collective as well as co-director of Colour of the Diaspora, an international collective of black women from the US and South Africa.
In addition, she is founder of Kalaneng Arts Track, a youth theatre organisation created to empower emerging artists.
She has also sharpened her artistic talent through studying and working at, among others, the Market Theatre, Windybrow Theatre and the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
She has also performed at Maitsong Theatre in Botswana and at the Harare International Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe.
Caves Speak In Metaphors' is Mashiane first published collection of poetry and essays.
Masheane attained national prominence last year when she penned the provocative and humorous one woman show, My Bum is Genetic, Deal with it.
