The pensioners - most of them sickly - are forced to wake up early to be at payout points.
On Monday four people, including a 75-year-old pensioner, were gunned down and others injured in a botched robbery at a payout point in Moutse, Limpopo.
Why the Social Development Department does not use other methods for all pensioners, such as paying through banks or post offices, is not immediately clear .
This has not happened more than 10 years into democracy.
The department must move swiftly to scrap this system and treat our pensioners with dignity.
