Tommy "TK" Kgomo, national softball coach, believes the team he has selected for the Zeist Softball Tournament in Holland will be the core of a squad that will conquer the world in future.

Kgomo has drafted in some capable youngsters for the Holland showpiece and is grooming them for the World Series in Japan in 2013.

He is also building a team for the World Championships in Canada next year.

The South Africans jet out to Holland today and the tournament pitches off on Friday while the final will be played on Tuesday, May 13.

The youngsters in the squad are the Limpopo pair of Tidama Kekana and Chochi Seleka, and the Western Province's Green brothers, Randall and Neil.

"I'm investing in these youngsters and giving them an opportunity to taste international competition. It will be good for the country," Kgomo said yesterday.

"We are convinced that they will learn a great deal. The players have a crucial role to play in transforming softball in South Africa. I don't doubt their potential. It is also good for us because Softball South Africa (SSA) is fully behind us and we will work hard to succeed in our matches," he said.

The multiple championship-winning coach added that their aim was to play more international friendlies and also engage strong opponents in Africa such as Botswana.

SSA also intend hosting an international event later this year and team manager Polelo "Mr Magic" Masola has been given the task of luring some of the countries that will compete in Holland to the envisaged event.

Other countries that will take part in Holland include the hosts, the Czech Republic and Denmark.

There have been some changes from the initial squad as some players withdrew for different reasons.

The squad:

Pitchers: Nakedi Mohlake, Vasna Molaba, Tshepo Mokoena and Kekana

Catchers: Jonathan Viljoen, Gert van der Walt

Infielders: David Lee Alexander, Neil Green, Tarig Moosa

Outfielders: Reneir Viljoen, Gerhard van Niekerk, Duncan Small, Randall Green and Tyron Young.
