Police in Limpopo have launched a massive search for four men who allegedly shot dead a woman in Matome village near Lebowakgomo at the weekend.

The woman was a well-known moneylender in the village.

The four men allegedly entered her house and found the woman's daughter with her boyfriend.

The thugs demanded money from the two but got nothing though one of them produced a firearm.

The "couple" referred them to the woman who was sleeping in her room.

On entering the room they again produced the firearm and demanded money, which the woman gave them. The amount is still unknown.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the woman was shot dead after she gave them the money.

She was identified as Leah Makhubela, 40, who lived at Matome village.

"We have launched a manhunt for the four suspects in connection with the shooting of the woman," Ramatseba said yesterday.

He said the incident happened at about 1am. The men, he said, fled on foot shortly after the killing. The woman's daughter and her boyfriend escaped unharmed.
